Let me introduce you to the "Bebé Glotón". Made by spanish manufacturers, this name is spanish for "Baby Glutton". Find out why this gluttonous baby is so controversial when you read the rest.
The Baby Glutton is a breast-feeding doll. Yes, you heard me correctly, a breast-feeding doll for young girls.
So how are girls going to be able to breast feed this precious little doll when they more than likely aren't even developed yet? Easy. The girls put on a halter top with two daisies in place for where their breasts should be. They then take the doll into their arms, and the doll immediately starts to suckle. Below you will see a video that demonstrates.
Is it just me, or is this going way too far for little girl toys? The toy manufacturer says that it is trying to foster nurturing in young girls and promote breast feeding.
But, isn't a 6-yr old girl a little too young for all that? They should probably just stick to releasing public service announcements.

And what's up with the name? Don't they know that gluttony is one of the seven deadly sins?(for my religious folks out there) Should we really be naming dolls after deadly sins? Goodness knows what that promotes for young girls.

Bebe Gluton is a HOT MESS. Gross, inappropriate and a HOT MESS. I don't quite understand people's desire to provoke controversy with unnecessary toys such as things that pass gas, urinate, and now pretend to nurse from a toddler. I agree with you all the way.
ReplyDeleteI'm on the fence about this one Alex. While I do think it's a weird concept, I would have to disagree with the inappropriateness of the whole doll. I think it's unfortunate that in our country breast feeding is considered such a taboo act. The fact of the matter is that while they can be used "for pleasure" (that sounds so weird to type, but you understand what I'm saying) their main purpose for women is to provide nourishment for their children. I know so many mothers, especially younger ones, that refused to breast feed their children for fear of losing their figure or thinking that the whole thing was weird. Studies have shown time and again that breast milk is the healthiest thing for a baby and it creates a very strong bond between the mother and child. Anyway, I know you weren't asking for all of that, but I think if anything, this doll would be inappropriate because it's promoting motherhood at such a young age, but the breast feeding does not bother me as much. Once again it seems weird, but not inappropriate in my opinion.

ReplyDeleteDaryl, It's not that I consider breast feeding a taboo act. I consider "breast-feeding" at the age of six a taboo act. I wasn't trying to attack or disagree with the importance of breast feeding, but I was rather disagreeing with promoting it to young girls.
But thank you for your opinion on the importance of breast feeding!
