Dallas Cowboy’s tight end Martellus Bennett has revved up another little controversy with his latest video: The Black Olympics.
The Olympics consisted of competing to see who could eat fried chicken, watermelon, and drink kool-aid the fastest.
See the actual video for yourself when you read the rest.
His statement: "I don't really think it's offensive," Bennett told The Michael Irvin Radio Show. "It depends on your sense of humor and how you look at things. We were just having fun and it was very funny for me and my brothers, when I look at it I just can't stop laughing. If someone takes offense, I apologize. That wasn't my intention. It was just us having fun."
I personally think that he must have too much free time on his hands.
What do you guys think? Offensive or not offensive?
What if other races had put on the "Black Olympics"? Would it be offensive then?
Let’s get some comments going.
My words are up.
**Bennett has already received a $22,000 fine earlier this year for his previous YouTube Video, one that insulted blacks and homosexuals.

Personally, I think it's funny and not offensive. That being said, if it were two white guys doing the same thing I feel that it would be another story. Honestly though, it's just two brothers that are having a good time together. My brothers and I do random stupid competitive stuff all the time.
ReplyDeleteThere's two ways to react to something like this that encompasses a typical stereotype: get upset that anyone would dare reference a racial stereotype or realize that they're not trying to be offensive and just appreciate it for what it is. Stereotypes exist. Trying to pretend that they don't is just bringing an elephant in the room.
There's a difference between humor and malice, and Bennett definitely has no ill intent here.
COONIN AT ITS WORSE, NUFF SAID
ReplyDeleteI personally don't think that this is an offensive thing. If people want to do such events, let them! it does not reflect every individual person. It was all just fun and games.
ReplyDeleteIn regards to the Martellus Bennet thing, i beleive that he should have more sense in what he chooses to put on the internet, and blacks should learn that not everything with black in the title should be a representation of our whole race.
ReplyDeleteAs a Black American, I feel our race is too diverse to be limited to everything that has black included in its title, including BET and Bennets Black Olympics. We should also start freeing ourselves by labeling everything we do as a black things, because that would encompass every and anything that happens on earth.
So, Martellus, next time u wanna act an ass on the internet, leave being black out of it
i think it is offensive, nuff said. :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat conversation! That's what this blog needs. Keep it up guys!
